Keeping it very simple and helping the reader engage by addressing their day. I’m flexible here with this brief guide to addressing their day. Now let them be still. And then move up the body (ankles, knees, thighs, waist, belly, chest, hands, wrists, arms/shoulders, neck, head, etc) Once the meditation is complete, I would like for the book to address the monsters yawning, snuggling in their blankets, and feeling calm/sleepy. The purpose being to finish the meditation by guiding them to a peaceful, sleepy state and ending the book. I would like for the illustrations to be simple – 3 little, cute monsters going to bed. Encouraging them to take 3 intentional deep breathes, then guide them through their 5 senses: First, notice 5 things that you can see. Look around you and become aware of your environment. Try to pick out something that you don’t usually notice. Second, notice 4 things you can feel. Bring attention to the things that you’re currently feeling, such as the texture of your clothing or a breeze on your face from a fan… Third, notice 3 things that you can hear. Listen for and notice things in the background that you don’t normally notice. It could be the birds chirping outside or an appliance humming in the next room. Fourth, notice 2 things you can smell. Finally, notice 1 thing you can taste. I want them to be simple, easy to follow, bedtime oriented meditations that encourage interaction between the reader and the child. That’s about it! Title: Mindful Little Monsters: Bedtime Meditations for Toddlers to Practice Mindfulness, Wind Down, & Fall Asleep (2 part Series)

For children 3-5 years old: between 300-700 words each book

The goal of the books is to help children release their emotions, come into the now, and fall asleep peacefully through following the story of 3 little monsters. I would like for the books to help children to become aware of their current emotions and general state. I would like for it to prompt the reader to engage with the child to make sure they are being asked the questions and participating in the meditation.

BOOK 1:

I would like for the book to start by addressing the monsters’ day. ie – the little monsters had a big day. they learned, played, and explored. addressing the day but not getting lost in the details of it. Keeping it very simple and helping the reader engage by addressing their day. I’m flexible here with this brief guide to addressing their day. Goal being for the final question to help transition to the meditation portion.

Then guide them through a short meditation practice such as:

Starting with 3 big deep breaths in and slowly letting all the air out. Picturing a balloon blowing up and then slowly deflating. Once the breaths are complete they will start the meditation. Ex: Begin to wiggle your toes, can you move each one at a time? Can you make them dance? Can they move in slow motion? Now let them be still.

And then move up the body (ankles, knees, thighs, waist, belly, chest, hands, wrists, arms/shoulders, neck, head, etc)

Once the meditation is complete, I would like for the book to address the monsters yawning, snuggling in their blankets, and feeling calm/sleepy. The purpose being to finish the meditation by guiding them to a peaceful, sleepy state and ending the book.

I would like for the illustrations to be simple – 3 little, cute monsters going to bed. Examples of the monsters are included in the attached images along with intended color palette. Very simple backgrounds, if any at all. focusing each illustration on the movement the child is participating in so they don’t become distracted.

BOOK 2

Tying the tiny monsters in of course – very similar start to book 1. helping engage the child, briefly addressing their day and how it has brought them to feel here and now. Then guiding them to find a comfortable position in their bed now that they have taken a bath and brushed their teeth, etc.

The meditation will start with guiding them to notice how the bed and the pillows are supporting their body. Encouraging them to take 3 intentional deep breathes, then guide them through their 5 senses:

First, notice 5 things that you can see. Look around you and become aware of your environment. Try to pick out something that you don’t usually notice.

Fourth, notice 2 things you can smell.

Finally, notice 1 thing you can taste.

I want them to be simple, easy to follow, bedtime oriented meditations that encourage interaction between the reader and the child. That’s about it!
